Shahada

The Shahada (شَهَادَة), often referred to as the Declaration of Faith, is the fundamental creed of Islam. It is a testimony of faith and a declaration of one’s acceptance of the core beliefs in Islam. The Shahada is considered the foundation of a Muslim’s faith, and it is recited by Muslims around the world as a part of their daily prayers and on various occasions.
The Shahada is comprised of two parts:
La ilaha illallah (لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله):
This part asserts the oneness of Allah and declares that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.
Muhammadun Rasulullah (مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ الله):
This part affirms the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and acknowledges him as the Messenger of Allah.
The complete Shahada in Arabic is: “أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ الله” (Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah), which translates to “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
Reciting the Shahada is a central step for someone converting to Islam, and it is a constant affirmation of faith for Muslims. It serves as a unifying statement, emphasizing the oneness of God and the role of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the final messenger in delivering the message of Islam.
