The door of the Kaaba, the most sacred structure in Islam located at the center of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is known as the “Multazam” or “Multazim.” The Multazam is the semi-circular area between the Black Stone (Hajr al-Aswad) and the door of the Kaaba. Pilgrims often seek to touch or cling to this part of the Kaaba, especially during the Hajj pilgrimage, as it is believed to be a place where supplications are accepted.
The actual door of the Kaaba is a wooden structure situated about 7 feet above the ground level on the northeastern side of the Kaaba. Historically, the Kaaba has had several doors, and they have been replaced and renovated over the years. The current door is made of pure gold and is adorned with Quranic verses and Islamic inscriptions. It is customary for the door to be opened twice a year for cleaning and maintenance.
Access to the Kaaba is highly restricted, and only a select few individuals, primarily those responsible for maintenance and cleaning, are allowed to enter. Pilgrims and visitors are not permitted to enter the Kaaba itself. The significance of the Kaaba and its door lies in its central role as the focal point for Muslims around the world during their prayers, particularly during the Hajj pilgrimage.
