The relationship between Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Zayd was significant, and their bond was strong. Zayd embraced Islam in its early days and became one of the first converts. His name is mentioned in the Quran, in Surah Al-Ahzab (33:37), which refers to Zayd as “Zayd ibn Muhammad” to signify the closeness of their relationship, even though Zayd was not the Prophet’s biological son.
Later, the Quran clarified the legal status of adopted children, stating that they should be called by their biological fathers’ names. This directive is found in Surah Al-Ahzab (33:4-5).
Zayd played a crucial role in various aspects of early Islamic history, and his story is often cited to emphasize the importance of equality, justice, and the abolishment of pre-Islamic practices, including the adoption system.
